Flooding September 21, 2009

Thought I'd post a few photos so you can see what is happening in our neck of the woods.

Here's one of our neighbors standing in the middle of our street taking pictures. As you can see the water level is slightly above his waist.

This is a shot of our mailbox taken around 9 AM this morning.  The water level has come up another 4 inches or so as that 4 x 4 the mailbox sits on is now under water.

This is a shot of the house across the street.  I'm keeping my fingers cross that they have flood insurance because they're all going to have major problems to fix when the water finally goes down.

This is a shot of the neighbor's home just to the left of us.

And this is of our front yard.  Our house sits up a bit higher than anyone else's so we might get through this without much more than a few more gray hairs from all the worry.

But it's still raining and they're calling for 3-4 more inches today.

  2. That's just awful!!! You really must sit up lots higher than the neighbors! I hope people had time to get what possessions out they wanted. I just heard on the TV about flooding in GA.

  3. OMG!
I live in North Ga and we are getting unreal rains here too. Thank goodness our house is on a mountain!
But, this morning, our brand new car has a leak and I squished into work.
    ARGH!
Anyway, oh, girl....I hope they have some flood insurance cause mold issues are real expensive. Me and my husband went through that with a water pipe leak 6 years ago. long story but oh my goodness.........
    Where do you live?

  4. I hope to goodness you make it through the flood okay! We went through that a few years ago when we lived in Calgary. We lived near a concrete plant and the water was half way up the doors of the mixer trucks!!!

  7. UGH!!! i don't know where you live but I'm in the Birmingham, AL area and they closed a couple of school systems in the western area because of all the water; some of the roads weren't passable.
Take care and I hope you stay high and dry!
    Prayers for your neighbors.

  12. Debra,,,I am so glad that yous have been able to stay dry so far. I really hate to see the floods anywhere but had no idea how bad it was up your way. My son and granddaughter lived in Lawerenceville a few years ago and they are amazed at the water up that way too. Hopefully it will recede quickly,,,yous are in my thoughts and prayers. We will be glad to take that water down this way,,,the swamp is still quite low so send it on south :).

  14. My prayers go out for you and your neighbors. Here in Wisconsin we had rains like that in June 2008 and one of the very small towns in our area was under water. Only about 20% of the town was not underwater. There are still houses that are not ever going to be inhabited again and the town lost more than half of the businesses. I do hope your town fairs better. God Bless.

  17. My great-great uncle's home was completely flooded. A TV actually floated up on their roof. My mom's basement got a little bit of water too. Hope you made it through with little damage as well!
